Being 1 step above simian when it comes to the black arts of the background software, I base my opinion on what is in front of me.
The Vbulletine boards that I visit certainly are more professional looking, seem to be easier to perform simple word processing tasks in, and don't have thinly veiled pop-ups.

Rob, I think a lot of the conflict here is that you (and a couple of other members) know a lot about this stuff. But most of us don't have a clue what you're talking about. So you're kind of preaching to us in Latin. That works for the church, I suppose, but isn't very productive for making change. This really needs to be handled by the board, and they will need your input and education to do it right. When I was on the board, we didn't get much input and mayhap made...

If we are going to have to pay for a service, my suggestion would be for someone that knows more about web hosting than I, to bring it up at the next meeting as to whether or not to buy VB and use that instead.
The ads are ridiculous and who knows what other crap is going on in the background. One of the reasons I don't use hotmail or any of that other free crap.

I don't post a lot here but I like to check in every day. I won't be for much longer if this keeps up...

What is so upsetting is YUKU was always toted as free. I did a quick search on EZ Board as a topic and came up multiple references to this issue and never, not once was it mentioned that member dues were being spent to support Yuku, all the while arguing that V Bulletin cost money.

What is the point of trying to be objective when a simple fact as to the difference between free and $160.00 per year get confused by "management"?

Buy a copy of vBulletin for $500 and get it done with forever. You'll still pay monthly hosting of some miniscule amount ($10/month?), but the interface will be better and you'll not have any ads.

I always figured this isn't the fanciest of sites... but who cares... I really don't want to pay to yak with you guys... so the price (free or subsidized by the club) was fine with me..

The only other place like this I spend a lot of time on is Adventure Riders... and it doesn't seem that they are vastly superior in their functionality.. I like the look of the site better...and there are a ton of forums.. but is also has way more members from all over the world.....

I subscribe to a off site spam filtering service, I run anti spyware programs religiously, I update my virus definitions often and now I am subject to ads embeded in the message body on this board. WTF!!!!!
To the powers that be: Lets rethink our association with Yuku sooner rather than later.
