I thought that I would let the YB membership know what went on regarding the pop up ads we were seeing on our message board over the last few days.
If you recall about a year ago our old message board service ezboard was going out of service and at that time our web master, Brian
Johnson starting looking
into a new electronic message board service for us. The decision was made to transition over to yuku. The folks at yuku offered us a one year free
trial,
click on the contribution history on the YB main page on the message board, and you will see that Brian, AKA sherbang,
Was give a $160 credit on April 13
Apr 13, 2006 sherbang $ -160.00 - Gold Community - 12 months
Apr 13, 2006 sherbang $ 160.00
So for the past year we have used the services of the yuku message board for free with out any pop up ads. When our one year
free trial was up is when the
pop ads started appearing.
I became aware of this today, 5/9/2008, and had the ads removed by making a contribution on behalf of the Yankee Beemers for $54, see
contribution history I am LT Boy.
So for a cost of about $0.10 per member I was able to get the ads removed.
Some folks have advocated that we move over to vBulletin bulletin board system. Well I have look into what is evolved in transitioning over to an
electronic bulletin board system using vBulletin for the Yankee Beemers. vBulletin is not a electronic bulletin board system. It just
the software application that is used to create and run an electronic bulletin message board see www.vbulletin.com/. To own a license of vBulletin it cost $160.
Now that only gets you the software application you still need a host computer that has an internet public address or domain name, like
the one we use for the YB home page of www.yankeebeemers.org, in order to host a YB bulletin
board system. For this to happen we would need to either pay a web hosting company that is willing to host our server,
or build and maintain one of our own.
If we decided to build a bulletin board system of our own we also need a volunteer to maintain the bulletin board system. If this project that would like to
take on either finding a
company to host a new bulletin board system or being our IT pro and developing a new YB bulletin board system please let one on the YB
corporate officers know.
