If we don't want the ads, all we have to do is click the button on top of the forum called "contribute" and when we get enough to pay for a gold membership, the ads will disappear!
Simple as that.

A "free" site has to be paid somehow, and the way they keep the site "free" is to have ads so the advertisers pay for the free site.

Well that's one way Kathy but then we would still have yuku. If we have to pay I would want to pay for a better board noy the old crap we were getting for
free.

The amazing thing to me is that we didn't get any of these ads until it was posted that Yuku collects information ....then all of a sudden we have ads on
almost every post.

PAY UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU MEAN WE HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN SPENDING MEMBER MONEY ON YUKU????????? WE WERE TOLD THIS WAS FREE! ok, breathe Rob, breathe. So for the years we have used this service I have been saying all along it is poison and nothing on the web is free. Now it is time to pay the piper. What makes me so freaking angry is that not only have we been stuck using shit for service *and* helping YUKU make money by providing registered users (more users =more money to put the ads in) but we have been SPENDING MEMBER MONEY TO DO SO. WTF??? I don't know what we spent on this but given the membership was allowed to believe it was FREE I am tremendously disapointed. Just about every time we had a public disucssion of the forum and purchasing V Bulletin the logic was "why pay for VB when we get this free?" In order to actually compare apples to apples I suggest that someone lets us know EXACTLY what using this "FREE" service is costing us. Forget about the cost of being tracked all over thw web, I am asking what the actual amount spent with Yuku on an annual and since inception cost is. Does anyone else find it offensive that we we have to pay to keep ads out of our posts and that we have to pay again and again every year? If the board wants to put the members first perhaps this would be a good time to review options for forum software. We have been told repeatedly that this service is free and IMO that is the major reason why we are using it. Now that we find out that free actually means send money it is time to re-examine our needs and put the users (members) first. |

So, the question is not just how much (or how little) $ YUKU costs the club, but what the alternatives cost, in comparison.
Kathy might well have the right idea here. |

Actually, Rob....you have said often that this board is crap. What exactly don't you like about it that VB can provide you?
I'm still confused at what this board is lacking that another board will provide. Maybe what should happen to do an apples to apples comparison is to have everyone list exactly what they want from a board, and then figure out from that list which board best suits our needs. As far as reviewing options and comparing boards, perhaps our webmaster could do that, isn't that suppose to be part of his job? Oh, and one more thing Rob, if you look at the contributions over the years, it's obvious that some members of the YB decided to contribute, all on their own. That wasn't a YB club decision. Perhaps it was important to them not to have ads, however that really doesn't mean that Yuku isn't free. Yuku is just like any other "free" message board. If we choose not to pay the price, that's certainly our choice. No one is forcing us to pay, however, a free board means you get ads. No one lied, this board IS free, we can continue with a free site and have ads. Kathy Harmacek

I always figured this isn't the fanciest of sites... but who cares... I really don't want to pay to yak with you guys... so the price (free or
subsidized by the club) was fine with me..
The only other place like this I spend a lot of time on is Adventure Riders... and it doesn't seem that they are vastly superior in their functionality.. I like the look of the site better...and there are a ton of forums.. but is also has way more members from all over the world.. This site is great to touch base with the club members and to see what is going on in my neck of the woods.. |
