I want to use one on the gs and my car. Are they good for small county roads and dirt ones?
What else do I need, ram mount, gps mount, hardwire cable?
Any and all info or links are greatly appreciated.

A newbie here to the GPS world........I think it's time, I remember a post awhile ago about some refurbished Garmin 2610's. Are these highly
recommended for a cheap rider? What about blue tooth models?

Andy - Google is your friend ! Go here for a good price on a refirb.:
http://www.gpsonsale.com/garmin/products/streetpilot2720.htm?gclid=CMP80eKbj5QCFQRJFQodIUnOgg The 2620 and 2720 are pretty much the same thing. Also 26 or 2710 or 30. If you want bluetooth, mp player etc, you need the higher numbers. Aereostitch has a bunch of mounting stuff as do several other sites. Also do a search on gps ram mounts for lots of vendors. |

Andy, I'm still happy with my BMW Nav II, aka Garmin 2610. Be sure to get one with a flash drive, not a micro drive.
I'm not sure that there will be a map update for it this year. I skipped last year's update and nothing has shown up for my unit this year. You can get updates (for a fee) if you register your unit. Dave

I love my 2610. I paid $90 for it on Craigslist, then updated to a 2 gig flashcard $14 and upgraded to the latest software which was free through garmin. It
was free because the original owner never registered it with Garmin. I love it, it's water proof and the mapsource software for creating routes is very
easy to use. If you don't need bluetooth or any of those extras the 2610 is the way to go.

I would love a new GPS but my 2610 is too good to find a reason for me to change yet. If it broke I would probably just get another one.

I purchased a 2730 in Feb of 2007. While at Americade a few weeks ago, the touch screen went bad. I returned it to Garmin and they just sent me a replacement
unit. Less than a one week turn around !

I was speaking to "Aint" at the rally and was wishing someone would put on a demonstration at one of the breakfasts on how to use Streets and Trips
or other software to plan routes. I've tried to figure this out myself, but am just not computer savvy enough to get it.
Although I love my GPS and can't go on a trip without it, I believe the ability to use routing would open up a whole new spectrum of enjoyment.......

Maybe I don't have the patience, but when I've tried to do routes on the PC and upload to the GPS the results are lacking.
I end up trying to put in via points in the touch screen of the GPS and it seems to work, but it feels like I'm cutting diamonds with a sledge hammer. I'm up for some learning. |

Roy and Kurt, what kind of GPS are you using? I have the 2610 and use map source to create routes. I don't know a whole lot about it, but i know enough
to create a simple route. If that's the software you have, i could probably talk you through it.

Thanks for the reply's. I'm still hunting. Anyone use one in tandem with an Autocom?
Roy awhile back you recommended a power amp from an eccentric guy( i can't describe it any better, do you still have the link to his site?).....I bought it and lost any directions, I'm a bit confused to as how it hooks up. Without having it in front of me, I remember there's two wires to the battery and one acc wire and three inserts. I have an autocom system. I'd like to be able to hook the phone, satellite/ipod and my gps when I get it all into the amp. Thanks, Andy |

Andy, I use my Zumo 550 with my Autocom. Didn't work at all until I bought another $80 Autocom accessory. Now it works okay but I can't put my earplugs
in too tight so I can hear the XM radio and GPS instructions as well as some wind noise. I have also tried my power booster but with the required Autocom
accessory it doesn't work at all. Before you buy a GPS, check with Autocom to find out if and what addtional accessories might be required with that GPS
unit.

Gary is the fellow......Here's his companies link
http://www.electric-avenues.com/ Two wires, red and black. Red is 12V+, Black is ground On the web site is a picture of the unit with inputs and outputs identified. I do wish he would label them, but what do you want for $65. Be aware, you might need a Radio Shack 12V inline noise filter if you get excessive alternator whine.

Rbertalotto wrote: I wish I had seen this two days ago! I just ordered this amp for my helmet speakers http://www.soundrite.biz/headset/amp-description.html it would have been better to go with a smaller company and someone that was recommended (not to mention free repair for life). Oh well, if this one doesn't work I will have to try one of Gary's. |

Yeah I just picked up a 2610 on ebay for $91. So what do I need to hardwire it and mount it onto my 95 R1100 GS. I also want to use it in my car.
Thanks, Andy |

2009 updated maps for my BMW Nav II aka 2610 just showed up on the MyGarmin site.
Andy, mine came with a weighted pad and cigar lighter adapter/speaker to use it in the car. Check sites for accessories. Also, I suggest you try out the gpspassion.com forum. Dave

Thanks for that info Dave, I'll update once I receive it and hopefully the learning curve won't be too long. Mine's coming with all the accessories
for the car, bean bag, street map, speaker power chord, remote.....
I just ordered the garmin motorcycle mount kit for it, seems I need a ram mount as well, a dual one may be good so I could add my sirius receiver as well. Any recommendations? Andy |

Having fun with my Toy. Lots to learn. I just ordered the 09 update disc.
I'm still trying to figure out the best way to mount it on my 95 GS, I'd like to add my Streamer GT radio as well. Anyone know if there's some type of shelf I can mount both on? I do have the Garmin motorcycle mount. Also I've realized, between the battery tender lead, gerbings lead, techlusion, gps, (radar detector?) I think I need a separate fuse box. Is Centech the way to go? Things are much simpler on the airhead Andy |

I use a Centech AP-2 for my Gerbing, GPS, and phone charger. Here's a link to my install.
