I was stopped recently for speeding and walked away with an oral warning rather than a written citation. One never really knows why a cop might let you go, but
I thought of one possible reason he let me go this time. I told him (truthfully) that I had been visiting a couple of cop friends from an adjacent
jurisdiction. I mentioned my cop friend's first names; I had really forgotten their last, but studiously tried to recall them when talking to
the arresting officer. I was sincere and most importantly, I stated more than once that "they were really great, great guys . . . and had helped me out in
the past . . . they were terrific cops!"). I think if you mentioned any common male name (Bobby, Johnny, Billy, Joey - it should end in the familiar
diminutive "y") as being a cop friend of your's from a nearby jurisdiction it might just do the trick. Like all great art forms, sincere lying
requires serious practice . . . married men should pass with flying colors. It would also be imperative to stress "what really, really, really good guys
they were . . . real police officers who impressed you so much!"
We know there is a comarderie and norm of reciprocity among almost all police officers. They help out their brothers and friends thereof. Who knows, you might be able to gain a "Get out of Jail Free" pass too. But you gotta practice! Sincerity and appreciation of good cops is the principle theme you should focus upon and stress in your discussion. Scamming a cop ain't easy and is not a task for the timid or honest. Any YBer should do just fine.
