Hey Andy, can't wait to see your installation.
You said "However I went direct to the Autocom for the GPS (Street Pilot 2610) but I can't here the voice prompts and idea why? I used the same cable and input I used to use for my phone....." I had to buy a special isolated cable to connect from my 2610 to my Autocom phone input. See Autocom website, or try gpspassion.com. Dave

Otterbox for iPod Nano 3G | #23
|
Somehow Roy had the time and ambition to help me with mounting my iPod on my shelf. I had bought a Otterbox, specially made for the iPod Nano 3G, and wholly
waterproof:
Here it is next to my new Starmate 4 Sirius receiver.
Since I won't be changing between the sources very often (I prefer the Sirius) I will just move the cable between them. It connects to my Autocom Active-7. Thanks Roy! You are indeed the Farklemeister! Dave

Gary at electric avenue has the isolation cable for $15 bucks, second for $10. Autocm wants around $50 for the cable......whew.
Looks great Dave. Hmm what else should I mount? It seems the airhead is a lot simpler..... Andy |

I prefer the Sirius because it has current News, Talk, and Sports programming, not easily available on an iPod (Don't want to reload podcasts every
morning). As far as music, I like to have a Disc Jockey select songs in a genre (without commercial interruption).
But, I have thousands of MP3's ripped from my CD collection. When the Sirius doesn't work, under the New England trees, this is an alternative. Dave

A cheap low-tech installation of GPS | #29
|
OK, so it's not perfect, but it augments my $4 WalMart compass. And as I've no sound system, I can still yodell and croon to my heart's content.
I bought and installed an obsolete (but new-to-me and so far, adequate) Magellan Maestro (auto use only) GPS at BJ's for $150. Mounting? With black friction tape providing a non-skid base to the top of my front brake master cyclinder, and with four (count 'em) black electrician ties I secured the son-of-a-bitch to the base tighter than . . . (you complete in twenty-four words or less.) For infrequent refilling of the cyclinder I'll remove the old and install new ties. It's position is appropriately off-center and the relatively small display screen is of a height that enables this deaf and blind rider to read all (with slight forward lean) and hear most (without earphones) if and when I stop yodelling Waterproofing? Do you know how many zip-lock sandwich bags $1 will buy? (OK, so an elastic band is needed to hold the plastic bag in place - only during rain. And do you know how many elastic bands $1 will buy?) Being as cheap a guy and as non-mechanical as one is apt to find, I am pleased as punch with the outcome. I've tested it in light rain and at 90 mph (its elevated position leaves it exposed beyond limits of windscreen. Remember it was designed for placement on a car's protected interior dashboard.) Now I just have to learn how to operate the GD thing.
BTW. I love the soft, seductive female vocal prompts. One accepts what little one gets, doesn't one?
Keep to the left except when passing.
