With my schedule it impossible to be sure if I can go so it I am not going to preregister. Is it ok to go for the day on Saturday as long as I am willing to
pay the full $45 per person or will that mess everything up? I will also be coming with a friend if I can make it.

I sure hope we will continue the "One Day Pass" thing like we did at Pemi. Lots of folks might not want to camp, but want to join us on Saturday
afternoon and for dinner on Saturday night. I believe we charged $25 at Pemi. No reason not to collect a few $$ more.

Roy,
Although your suggestion for Day Passes is a good one in theory, It doesn't work in this application. At Damn Yankees we have a strict advance count on Chicken Dinners for the Heath Volunteer Fire Dept. Unaccounted Last minute arrivals run the risk of not having the Sat. night Chicken BBQ meal. We once ran out in the past forcing all the Working Volunteers to forfiet their meals to accomodate regular rally attendees. Never again. So, If a day pass is issued (for $25pp) there's No meal ticket issued and. You'll have to wait till everyone's fed and see if there's anything left. If not, you can Buy a burger from the other food vendor. DanaL

danal wrote: That makes sense. When ever you try to put on a large event a lot of planning and hard work is required. I agree anyone just showing up should not expext to be included in the meal. I was just thinking of stopping by for the day and I don't mind paying full price for the chance to meet some of you. For the meal my friend and I would probably get it on the way home that evening. It is good to point out though or you could get some with other unrealistic expectations. |

Dana, do you have to pre reg. in to be counted for a meal, or does posting here count. I plan to show up early Friday morning and pay and stay for the weekend,
but i have not pre reg.

Yo Brian!
And thanks Overkill for your full understanding of the situation. This is after all a Fundraiser for the good people of Heath. On this weekend we're all Heathens

But.............. if folks make notice that they are coming for the day (staying in a motel, only have the one day to ride, etc), can they not then pay the
$25. In this way we would indeed have an accurate head count?

Hey now,
I am so in! This has been a screwy summer and it looks like Heath could be my first, last and only rally of the year. Chace will be there too. Just a short point on day passes as Dana's original co-cheese. More than other events Heath runs on a total shoe-string budget and the more we save the more we can donate. The single biggest challenge is giving the Fire Department a number on the dinners. The FD prepares the sides (beans, slaw, ect) in their own homes the week before the rally, plus they order the chicken 7 days before the rally. Compare this to say the Minuteman where I can adjust the meal count 48 hrs in advance. This is because the MM is in a hotel, not on a field. Plus with BBQ chicken the number of birds is the number of meals unlike a buffett where you can always squeeze in a few extra dinners. Because of this Dana always has to roll the dice 8 days before the rally (that would be this Thursday) and pick a number. We chat about the weather, he checks in with the pre-reg number and we roll the dice. One year we were low and the rally staff and the YB officers went without dinner. Other years we have been over by 50 which means wasted food, embarrassment and less money to give away. If we allowed day passes or "just dinner" it would add a ton of overhead to the volunteers. It really isn't a worry that folks would try to rip us off (even though we know one or two that would), it is more the hassle factor. When it is all said and done the event is a fund raiser. If you are posted up in a hotel nearby and you want to participate in the rally you should pay the full rally fee. This is how it is done at every rally form the National on down. Keep in mind that this is a fund raiser. Also even for a day it is a great time. We'll have a morning dual sport and pavement rides, the Scottish Trials (with some new twists), field events, a great dinner and our always entertaining Saturday evening awards, all before sunset so you could stay for the day for a mere $45 which is all for a good cause and a bargain to boot. Another way to look at it is the rally cost 45 bucks and the camping is free. If you don't want to camp the rally is still $45. Regardless I'm really looking forward to a weekend with my peeps. See you next weekend! Best, Rob Nye |
