BMW's new F800 GS will virtually be at the Tavern from Tower Square for this Sunday's Yankee Beemer Breakfast. You'll be able to see this bike being put through its paces as we present LIVE, direct from Cape Town South Afrika, Rob Nye and his awesome slide presentation. Rob you see was invited to attend the Media Intrduction and brought back pictures which he has kindly offered to share with us after breakfast. Be among the first riders on your block to see this great new bike!

Posts: 120 02/25/08 10:01 AM	I found Rob's presentation very entertaining and a great distraction, considering the half-foot of snow outside. South Africa is exotic and fascinating. Thank you Rob for sharing your experience with everyone on Sunday. It was an inspiration and call to action. We really ought to encourage more of the same. More projector-screen presentations. We have YBers who've ridden in Brazil, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Baja, Calif. And ten of us just returned from ends of the earth, Patagonia, Argentina, Chile. Their stories are fascinating. Fred Castellucci was born in South Africa and he did a trip in 2006 where his borrowed K100 literally burst into flames. His photos were amazing, showing natives and elephants up close and personal. And to hear the 10 Amigos' trip to Patagonia will blow your mind. We also have new members - Debra Barnes and Chris Kyprianos, from Gardner Mass, who sold their house and cars to live on their F650s for 10 months traveling the US, Canada and Mexico. Rob is a trailblazer. Now it's up to everyone else to do the same kind of sharing and educating. Even if it means inviting outsiders as guest speakers, which we've done in the past. There's a new dealer in Marlborough, Red Streak Motors, who I met on Saturday. They are open to hosting club events and supporting us in other ways (future Blue Book sponsor). I think I can get them to come in and talk about the new Benellis. They are doing an open house with demo rides, June 7. And they have a TNT 1130 in the shop ready to demo. These bikes are rolling works of art and they follow nobody else's design theory. They even got a dual-sport (Amazona). They are trailblazers too. I was delighted to share my experience with my fellow YB's and I was very disapointed at having a "Microsoft moment" right when I was getting to the photos of the new bike "in the wild". I think you are on to something for winter meetings. I am happy to bring my projector anytime. Some of the best advise I got before my trip was "take plenty of pictures". I carried two cameras, a small point n shoot and a digital SLR and took over 500 images. The production of the slide show took about 30 minutes on my IMAC. To get the same result in windows required an investment of over 8 hours and a resignation to try to build the slide show in powerpoint. I wanted to disply the original photos (not reduced images) which was what caused the laptop to get bogged down. So to my fellow YB's. Get out there, do something cool, take lots of photos and come home safe to play show n tell.

It's harmless chin-waging. I just smile, nod, and change the subject. People have the freedom to say whatever they like but that doesn't hurt the organization. A 'club' exists in the minds of its members. Not a member? Then the 'club' doesn't exist for you. We should be happy for them and celebrate their adventure -- someone almost died on this trip. Their stories are amazing. I'm helping them put together a slide presentation to share at our next meeting. After that one I'd like to do my own dog & pony show about New Mexico & AZ ghost towns, and after that, we'll look at Baja, California trip done by some new members. And after that... more to follow. You see, you really did open the Pandora's box last Sunday. It's all your fault!

Posts: 225 02/26/08 3:59 PM	I for one could care less about anybody "bashing all things YB" because as Victa stated their views change my involvement and enjoyment of YB not one iota. Being a member of many different types of groups (cars, motorcycles, lawyers, guns, etc.) the following observation holds universally true: 10% of any club does all the work, 50% or less of the members actually participate in most events, and at least 10% belong just to complain about everything the 10% who actually do the work are doing while never actually doing anything themselves. Eventually the last group takes offense at some preceived slight and leave in a huff to some other group. But the slide show looks fantastic and I for one would love to see it.
