This is a little sample of what we did instead.
Acting like tourist.
We got to hang with some of the best dressed locals.
Torres Del Paine National park in Chile, the views were breath taking.
Guanaco, the scourge of the ranchers, they compete for the limited grasslands with the cattle and sheep.
This is one of the better sections of Argentina's Ruta 40. We did over 300+ miles of this stuff and the kindest thing I can say about it is I've done
it - don't need to go back.
The dust gets in everything, it is absolutly murder on the bikes, glad they were rentals.
Chlie's Ruta 7 had slightly better surface conditions, but was a mountain road. Think 120 miles of hairpin mountain passes on gravel... YeeHaw.
By this time my chain was toast, there are no shops out here you have to make do so we pulled out the adjusters and added washers to the bolts to try and get a
little more tension on the chain.
No luck, about 80 miles from the end of the trip a DNF, but I did ride out a 100 ft skid on a locked up rear tire, more luck than skill.
More to come...
Kurt
