I would like some ideas from experienced riders please.
I have an 07 k1200gt and there is not much room between the shifter and the footpeg so boots wont work, plus I don't think I could get myself to wear a full bott yet. Baby steps!

Thia year I have decided to get some good gear and stop riding in just jeans and sneakers. I have always had a good jacket and I bought some Revits pans. So
now I am looking at shoes that cover the ankle. I am looking for the lightest and smallest shoe. I was thinking about something like this http://www.cbxmanmotorcycles.com/Alpinestars-One-O-One-Motorcycle-Shoes.aspx
I would like some ideas from experienced riders please. I have an 07 k1200gt and there is not much room between the shifter and the footpeg so boots wont work, plus I don't think I could get myself to wear a full bott yet. Baby steps!

Looking at those 'shoes' in your link, I would say that most boots would be less clunky and offer more room for you foot for shifting etc. The shoe
will not offer proper protection in a crash.
A couple suggestions: -Go to MotoMarket in Acton and have a look at the stuff they have. I like to get water proof stuff so I can keep going in the rain. -BMW boots are really good, and you should find a selection at Max. I got mine at Wagners. Can't recommend buying foot gear on line. You need to try the boots on to insure they fit your foot. Do you want links showing what happens to an unprotected foot in a crash? |

Fully agree with Bob ain't Stoppin. Get real riding boots. Good choices at MotoMarket. I've been riding with BMW boots for >8 years. Comfortable and dry. Can't imagine riding without. |

Look for BMW Goretex boots.
Been riding, camping and walking for miles at campouts and rallys in mine exclusively for years now. Been up to my ankles in rivers, climbed mountauin trails and shoveled my driveway in them. Still going strong with No leaks and No issues. Only brand I'll buy. DanaL http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=bmw+motorcycle+boots&category0= SaVaNt |

Thank you! I have wanted to go to moto market to see what they have. I will check it out. I know boots would be better but I use my to commute also and with
this type of shoe I could wear them all day also. With boots I would have to change. I appreciate the advice! Good to know what works!

+1000 for BMW Gortex boots. Have had mine five years now. Trip to Alaska, couple cross country jaunts, two crashes and countless rain storms and still like
new. Dry as a bone, breath great and comfortable for all day use.

You asked for advice, now take it. Nothing more is required. Save the sneakers for the gym.

BillP wrote: I am new to the board but I thought I would chime in. First off, What is "Next oil"?????? It sounds to me like Overkill is not looking for BMW boots..... I think the boot you are looking for is the Rev'it fighter boot. Its a low profile waterproof boot that has sneaker like comfort. I got a set from Second Wind BMW, They had to order them for me but they did so without any money down just so I could try them. We got it right the first try and they fit great. I wear them all day at work. They were $229.99. http://www.revzilla.com/product/revit-fighter-h2o-boot Hope this helps.... |

I'm riding in combat tourers. The name says it all, I am suiting up in heavy boots for combat. Its easy to pack a pair of shoes or sneakers for off the
bike. By donning bike specific gear you are telling yourself " I am doing something different, something dangerous, I need to pay attention, everyone is
trying to kill me". The extra shoes may be a hassle but how much of a hassle is a broken ankle, casts, crutches, lost work, lost wages....
There is nothing as expensive as inadequate cheap gear.

Thank you everyone for all of the help! So many choices!
Thank you Brk4moose, that is exactly what I was thinking of. I think I will see if Second Wind will order me a pair to try. I am sure they will. They are awesome over there! |

Thank you Bob! Great minds think alike. I went to motomarket yesterday for my first ride of the year and they did not have any. But it was a great ride! I
think I am not feeling well today (fake cough) I think I may need some fresh air induced by riding to make myself feel better today too!

Brk4moose wrote: Once we get this boot vs. sneaker thing put to bed I want to start an oil thread. That being said, why not use $2.00 oil and change it ofter? Clean cheap oil is better than dirty expensive oil. Also, the oil in these Beemers do not do transmission duty or clutch duty. There I started it. You finish it. |

Not sleepy time just yet. I crashed a bike a couple of years ago with the bike falling to the left and crushing my left foot between the clutch cover and the
foot peg. The armor reinforced Oxtar Matrix boots I was wearing at the time saved my left ankle from severe injury. I wore an air cast for a couple of months
afterwards. The only lasting effect of that accident is I now have a small bone chip next to my ankle. I still wear those boots every time I ride. The KBC FFR
modular helmet I was wearing saved my head and especially my face from being scraped off as I landed face down on the asphalt. The face plate closed on impact
and the sound of my face plate scraping along the pavement is one sound I will never forget.
P.S. That left ankle injury is the primary reason I'm riding a big scooter. |

Not knowing any better, in my early riding days I went down wearing only sneakers. Resul: 8 breaks in left foot (difficult now to get matching strides that
fit both feet.)
Also a later dump at a construction site onto chipped granite left new full face shield looking like Freddy Kruger or Edward Sissors Hand had dragged their claws across it. Reports of many others who have dumped (and is it not just a question of when, not if?) strongly support investing in good gear. J. Murray |

Did someone say NOmarket - I've order a pair of pants at their November / Thanksgiving Sale and are still waiting for them. What do they order once a year.
Only buy what they have - forget ordering anything - The Gun toating Pirate can back me up on this - I even have a bill of sale for the $$ I put up in Nov. Get
your act together or I'll go to Dunbars for better service and enjoy the ride there.
