Lately their has been alot of bads news, an old friend, Alan Capano passed away this weekend, Alan and I rode cross country many years ago from Colorado to the
National in the mid west. Last time I saw Alan was a Max's BMW in NY and he was with Herb Gunnisons wife promoting the book about Herb. At that time he
told me he needed a new heart due to the fact that his was worn out. Great man, good friend and always with a smile on his face. Alan will be missed.

Doug, That is a bummer, how is life fair ? Last night Susan & I went to a Jackson Browne acoustic show, his lyrics are in general a downer, but his music always got me thru the tuff times. It was
a really great concert, but it makes me re-live some of his lyrics. For a Dancer
Just do the steps that youve been shown I wish I would have met him, and I wish you could have met my good friend R.C. Summer.

Loss and poetry | #4 | ||

When deaking with loss I find myself reciting Robert Frost's "Bereft" and "Goodby and Keep Cold." The poet T.S. Elliot offered that
"Poetry was not an expression of emotion but rather an escape from emotion." I also take comfort listening to Greg Brown's tune, "He Was a
Friend of Mine." Condolences. John Murray

I will miss Alan as he was always a gentleman and knew pretty much EVERY road in the US! Plus he was a night owl like me, so he and I were always among the
last ones up at any Rally we were usually at together, so many a long conversation ensued.
Back in the day he was quite a rider and rode all over the US and Canada! He was always giving great recommendations for rides and such. I remember the first time I went out to Vintage Motorcycle Days (probably around 1988) I started out at the Gummikuh Rally in NY. When he learned of my ride his eyes lit up and he said "Oh you HAVE to go over the bridge at Ogdensburg, New York! It is over a mile long, all steel and is the steepest ascent and descent that I have ever been on! EVERYONE has got to do it at least ONCE in their LIFE!!" So I added it into my very fluid route and he was absolutely spot on! It ended up being a trip highlight!! Ride on Alan, we will miss you! Phil PD SALES - NOT ONE BIKE ALIKE!! A bunch of Beemers a Triumph a MAGNI a Ducati and a couple of Hondas |

I used to see Alan at Yankee Beemer campouts in Vermont in the mid-
90's. Alan impressed me as a true cross-country motorcycle adventurer. At the campfire, he explained how to do an oil change in the parking lot of a store; putting all the old, used oil back into the oil bottles for disposal. He described how to plan for a cross-country trip, how to do laundry on the road and he gave me camping tips. At that time, Alan had returned from several weeks (months?) touring out west and I hadn't yet been outside of New England. He inspired me to want to do the same kind of traveling: ride all day and camp out for the night. He worked at a motorcycle shop somewhere in eastern NY. The last time I saw him was at Vanson Leather and he had a Moto Guzzi Quota. That was at least 5 years ago. Jim Costello introduced me to Alan. I remember alan with his really big 3/4 length motorcycle riding jacket and his white-tanked BMW GS with a unique tank logo (not a BMW roundel). What was the tank logo that Alan had applied? |
